The last time our team took part in a longer adventure race was in 2010, when Bjørn Håvard, Malin and Jo Inge were accompanied by Christian W. Bøen, competing under the name Jotun Paints in the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge.
Prior to this Bjørn Håvard and Malin had taken part in Abu Dhabi, Explore Sweden and Adventure Racing World Championships, and had competed in the Swedish Multisport Cup and Swedish Championship for several years. Bjørn Håvard, Malin and Jo Inge have participated three times in Oslo City Challenge and in 2010 took part in Polar Adventure Race in Stockholm. Bjørn Håvard, Jo Inge and Wendy won Merrell Challenge in Oslo in 2010. Wendy and Jo Inge were overall winners of the Swedish Multisport Cup mix class in 2010, and have competed several times in the elite class in The Original Mountain Marathon.
After Abu Dhabi, Malin has been on the podium in Norseman Xtreme Triathlon, and Bjørn Håvard and Malin won Merrell Challenge in 2012. Wendy and Jo Inge have been on the podium each year in the Swedish Multisport Cup overall, and won Marka24 in 2012. Wendy took part in the 2012 Adventure Racing World Championships in France with a Swedish team (Ducati Bicycles/Rideaway) – the first all female team to have completed an ARWC. Jo Inge won 4 Summit Race in 2012 and 2013. Jo Inge and Wendy are currently in second place after the first two races of the Swedish Multisport Cup, competing under the name “Peaklife Sport” .
The new name reflects our new cooperation with the English company Peaklife Sport, as we build up to a new team constellation at the end of the year. Wendy and Jo Inge will be joining forces with Wendy’s childhood friend Christine Howard and her husband Karl Webster for this year’s last big goal: the Adventure Racing World Championships in Costa Rica in December.
Karl is a keen competitor on his feet, in the saddle and in the water as a member of Matlock’s cycling and swimming clubs. Various combinations of these sports have led to him racing all over the country and in Europe representing his clubs and his employer, the British Police. He has simultaneously held the police national marathon, triathlon and orienteering championship titles back in 2003 and has been known to be a member of the winning team on the Great Kinder Beer Barrel Race, which – according to those who take part – is one of the toughest team events in the Peak District – (the race itself, not the aftermath!).
Christine is a well-known athlete who has competed in England and GB colours in the World Mountain Running Championships and the age-group World Duathlon Champioships where she won and then retained the 40-44 title in 2010 and 2011. Numerous wins in a variety of races over many years have earned her great respect as an athlete and she even gets a mention in Richard Asquith’s book Feet In The Clouds for giving the author a sound thrashing whilst seven months pregnant!
